Barclay Hoskins is a dynamic Human Resources Consultant with over 19 years of Supervisor, HR/Labour Relations and Management experience. He drives businesses to top-quartile results by leveraging his strong labour relations skills and his ability to create and maintain a performance-based culture.
Barclay joined the CANSCOTT Management Services Ltd. team in early 2013 where he started instructing Managers and Supervisors in a wide range of industries. Barclay has been consulting/instructing full-time since 2013, and this endeavour has taken him to five provinces and one territory in Canada and five states in the U.S.A.
Prior to his Consulting work, Barclay’s passion for improving labour relations and tackling challenges at Ainsworth Engineered Canada LP (a large Oriented Strand Board Manufacturer) earned him an excellent leadership reputation. Barclay played a key role in moving the site from a year to date (YTD) medical incident rate of 3.57 in 2011 to a top-quartile result of 1.39 in 2012. He is also credited for a new OH&S program, a new job training program, a new grievance handling process, addressing a supervisory skills shortage and building a unique union-supported joint disability management program which translated into an improved absenteeism rate, lower labour and claims costs and improved employee morale. He also addressed a challenging Union and Management relationship earning him a reputation for building respectful relationships and bringing structure to the business.
His leadership strength emerged earlier in his career as he led the human resources department and safety department at Canadian Forest Products Ltd. Houston Sawmill (the world’s largest sawmill at the time). During this time Barclay maintained effective labour relations and a respectful union and management relationship. Also, he addressed the stagnant safety performance and improved the medical incident rate to 1.85 by taking a leadership role in the continuous improvement initiative implementing Kaizen Lean Sigma to the site.
Prior to his work in administration, Barclay worked as a front-line Production Supervisor in an industrial wood products manufacturing plant supervising both the production crew and as a relief shipping Supervisor for shipping finished product to customer. He understands the demands on the front-line Supervisor and the rewards and frustrations of the position.
Barclay earned his Bachelor degree from the University of Northern BC including a Double Major and has also achieved his Certified Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation. He has also completed several managerial level leadership courses.
